Australian veterans have finally been heard, after Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Dan Tehan announced yesterday the Coalition Government will adopt the recommendations in The Constant Battle: Suicide by Veterans report by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee.
“This report represents three years of work and consultation with the veterans’ community,” Senator Lambie said.
“Veterans’ mental health has been an issue that’s close to my heart long before I became a Senator and I am pleased the Government has seen the merit in the recommendations put by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee.
“But when will the Government roll out the recommendations it has agreed to?” Senator Lambie asked.
“Veterans don’t need more reviews, they need results.
“It is a step in the right direction, but an announcement isn’t enough to fix decades of entrenched issues.
“I won’t rest until I see the Government looking after the people who put their life on the line for this country,” Senator Lambie said.
